NERUDA NERUDA
Juan Antonio Villacañas trans. Michael Smith & Beatriz Villacañas

Me canso de ser hombre y de ser macho,
porque ser hombre sólo lo es cualquiera,
y es un consejo de mi cocinera,
aunque me guiso solo y me despacho.

Me canso de ser hombre y buen muchacho,
y es que soy una vieja primavera,
la más vieja y antigua, la primera,
me cuesta incorporarme si me agacho.

Me canso de ser hombre de verdad,
sin dudar para nada de Neruda,
y lo digo en olor de nadedad.

Es la lluvia de envidia muv menuda,
pero me canso por rivalidad
y sé que a Pablo no le cabe duda.

I am tired of being man and male,
because only a man anybody can be,
that's what my lady cook says,
although I cook and dispatch myself.

I am tired of being man and a good young fellow,
because I am an old Spring,
the oldest and most ancient, the first one,
I find it hard to stand up if I bend down.

I am tired of being truly man,
not doubting Neruda in the least,
and I say this as if it were nothing.

Envy's rain is very small,
but I am tired in rivalry
and I know Pablo has no doubt of that.
