ENTRE LOS DOS - UNO ... BETWEEN THE TWO - HE ...
Carlos Barbarito trans. Stefan Beyst
y sus pies pugnaban por abandonar el suelo;
es el actual desierto en el que se extravían;
grita.
Between the two - he
who never swam and waited on the bank,
and she who swam amidst the fields of the drowned
and nations of algae to embrace him -
there is now
something for which they cannot find a name
(it covers with dust the road of the white stones
and bends with its weight the branches
until they are forced to touch the ground).
Yesterday
they had their gaze fixed onto some remote sun
and their feet struggled to leave the ground;
their flesh became glass to them, shatters,
a boy gathers up the pieces, gets hurt.
The very place that had been theirs
is now the real desert where they get lost;
what separated them a moment ago
now is already centuries old.
The boy
looks at his hand,
cries out.
