SAN MATEO INSPIRADO POR EL
ÁNGEL
ST. MATTHEW INSPIRED BY THE
ANGEL
Daniel Samoilovichtrans. Brian Cole
Un ángel habla al oído Mateo
que, viejo, barbado, pluma en mano,
mira el vacío delante de sí. El ángel
no puede estar hablando arameo
porque entonces Mateo no tendría
nada que pensar: copiaría
lo que el ángel le dicta.
Murmura el ángel frases sin sentido
en cuya oscura música celeste
el anciano ve saltar a veces
los peces fugitivos de su tema.
An angel speaks into Matthew's ear
who, old, bearded, pen in hand,
stares into the void in front of him. The angel
cannot be speaking Aramaic
because then Matthew would not need
to think: he would just copy
what the angel dictated to him.
The angel whispers meaningless phrases
in whose dark celestial music
the old man sometimes sees them jump,
the fleeting fishes of his theme.
