AMOR ETERNO MÁS ALLÁ DE
..............LA MUERTE
ETERNAL LOVE - BEYOND DEATH
Francisco de Quevedo trans. James H.Donalson

Cerrar podrá mis ojos la postrera
sombra que me llevare el blanco día,
y podrá desatar esta alma mía
hora a su afán ansioso lisonjera;

mas no de esotra parte en la ribera,
dejará la memoria en donde ardía;
nadar sabe mi llama el agua fría,
y perder el respeto a ley severa.

Alma a quien todo un dios prisión ha sido,
venas que humor a tanto fuego han dado,
médulas que han gloriosamente ardido;

su cuerpo dejará, no su culdado;
serán ceniza, mas tendrá sentido;
polvo serán, mas polvo enamorado.

The last of shadows day may bring to me
Will close my eyes for one last time, and then,
It will untie this soul of mine again
From trivial goals and their anxiety.

Not on the farthest shore that one may see,
But memory will stay where it would burn.
My flame knows how to swim the cold return
And lose respect for law's severity.

A soul whose prison was its God and will,
Veins that so much of fire have moved,
And marrow that has burned so gloriously

Leave flesh behind, while taking care above,
They'll all be ashes, but with feeling still
We'll be but dust, but dust that's still in love.
