ENTERRARÁN AL NIÑO ...THEY WILL BURY THE CHILD ...
Carlos Barbaritotrans. Brian Cole
Enterrarán al niño.
Leerán salmos de un libro
de hojas de fino cobre,
cantarán otros niños
un canto triste,
despeinados,
las rodillas sucias.
Nadie sabrá qué
causó su muerte,
culparán al frío,
al olor del alcanfor
que llevaba en el bolsillo,
a la palabra jaspe
que nunca conoció,
a algún pan
tirado en un patio,
cubierto de insectos.
Lo enterrarán dentro de un rato,
mañana, dentro
de un año, de un siglo.
No le cerrarán los ojos.
They will bury the child.
They will read psalms from a book
with pages of fine copper,
other children will sing
a sad song,
unkempt,
with dirty knees.
No-one will know what
caused his death,
they will blame the cold,
the smell of the camphor
that he carried in his pocket,
the word jasper
that he never knew,
some bread
thrown away in a yard,
covered with insects.
They will bury him shortly,
tomorrow, within
a year, a century.
They will not close his eyes.
