APROXIMACIONES - 2 APPROXIMATIONS - 2
Carlos Barbarito trans. Brian Cole
Cada cual con su lengua, su silla plegable,
su reloj detenido en una hora
anterior a la borrasca, su fruta preferida,
su modo de amar y cerrar la puerta.
Y cada uno con su desnudez,
personal, intransferible. Y
cierta amarga libertad,
cierta y dulce esclavitud,
un sitio en el interminable cortejo
que atraviesa las aguas
hacia una hipotética tierra firme.
Everyone with his language, his folding seat,
his watch stopped at some time
before the storm, his favourite fruit,
his way of loving and of closing the door.
And each one with his nakedness,
personal, non-transferable. And
a certain bitter freedom,
a certain and sweet slavery,
a place in the endless procession
that crosses the waters
to reach a hypothetical terra firma.
