APROXIMACIONES - 1 APPROXIMATIONS - 1
Carlos Barbarito trans. Brian Cole
¿Qué es de los muertos? No sudan,
ni tributan, ni expectoran. Nunca tarde,

What is it with the dead? They don't sweat,
pay no taxes, don't spit. Never late,
early, golden, consolidated.
Will the hole soon burst into flame,
and a rat come to light up
with its eyes the most complex of catechisms,
will those light sheets return
in the noon-time of Tunis or Cyprus?
The answer is no. It is a stage with no scenery,
at the foot of an improbable paradise.
It is a prophecy that overflows, for nobody.

But what is it with the living?
