CANTIGA DE AMOR SONG OF LOVE
Airas Nunez - (Galician) trans. James H. Donalson
Que muito m'eu pago deste verão
por estes ramos e por estas flores
e polas eves que cantan d'amores,
por que ando i led' e sen cuidado,
e assi faz tod' ome namorado:
sempr' i anda led' e mui loução.
Quand' eu passo por algas ribeiras,
so bõas arvores, por bõos prados,
se cantan i passaros namorados,
log' eu con amores vou troubando
e fazo cantares en mil maneiras:
ei eu gran viç' e grand alegria
quando m' as aves cantan no estio.
How pleasant is the summer-time for me,
beneath the branches and among the flowers
with birds about that sind of all their loves
and leave me happy, carefree in my walk!
This is the way all men in love behave:
my walk is happy, even elegant,
the while I pass along the river-banks,
beneath good trees, along good meadowland,
the birds are singing there, they too in love;
then I come by, my minstrelsy comes out
and I make songs a thousand different ways.
I have elation and great happiness
when birds sing to me in the summer time.
