CANTIGA DE AMIGO SONG OF A FRIEND
Airas Nunez - (Galician) trans. James H. Donalson
Disseron-m' oj', ai amiga, que non
é meu amigo almirante do mar,
e meu coraçon ja pode folgar
e dormir ja, e por esta razon
O que do mar meu amigo sacou
saque-o Deus de coitas qu'afogou

mui bien, e a mi, ca ja non andarei

non ei medo que me diga pesar;
mais porque m' el fez ben sen lh' o pedir
O que do mar meu amigo sacou
saque-o Deus de coitas qu'afogou.
They told me today, friend, my friend
is not a commander at sea,
so my heart can now have some peace
and also I can get some sleep,
and what my friend took away from the sea:
may God take away all the fear that he drowned,

all right, as for me, I won't be
made sad by the wind coming up,
nor will I lose sleep when it storms,
my friend, but the king's gone away,
and what my friend took away from the sea:
may God take away all the fear that he drowned,

all right, as for me, when I see
some man coming back from the front,
I don't fear he'll give me concern
that he did me good all unasked
and what my friend took away from the sea:
may God take away all the fear that he drowned.
