NOČ D D-NIGHT
Aleš Mustar trans. Manja Maksimovič (from Slovene)
Is it coming? Is it not coming? Is it coming? Is it not coming?
I'm counting as I'm clipping my toe nails.
It's a good thing I still have all my ten toes left
and the result was negative, so I go to bed at ease.
But tonight the vultures wont fall asleep,
there's a smell of fresh coffee in the news rooms,
even if we keep turning the lights on
we won't blind their greedy eyes,
even if we sleep at high speed we won't leave their news
behind.
How shall I kiss you when you bring me a fresh roll in the
morning
when a motorised paper-boy serves me a fresh image of
war?
This morning my coffee doesn't smell at all, there's
something rotten in the air.
Darling, I think I'll beat my TV addiction,
a good thing it's Thursday today and the daily "Work" comes
with the supplement "Fly Away -
to a Nicer Place".
