NEGRA SOMBRA BLACK MOOD
Rosalía de Castro John Frederick Nims - (from Galician)
Cando penso que te fuche,
Negra sombra que me asombras,
Ao pê dos meus cavezales
Tornas facÚndome mofa.

Cando maximo que ês ida
No mesmo sol te me amostras,
I-eres a estrela que brila,
I-eres a vento que zoa.

Si cantan, ês ti que cantas,
Si choran, ês ti que choras,
I-ês o marmurio d'o rio,
I-ês a noit ci?ês a aurora.

En todo estás e ti ês todo,
Pra min i-en min mesma moras;
Nin me abandonarás nunca,
Sombra que sempre me asombras.
When I think you're somewhere yonder,
dark penumbra, so benumbing
- back again! and by my bedside
hunched to mock with: "Trouble coming!"

Half imagining you vanish
- in the sun, that shadow massing!
You're a glumness in the starlight,
glumness where the winds are passing.

When there's singing, you're the singer;
when there's sorrowing, the sorrow.
You're the brooks that murmur darkly:
gloom this evening, gloom tomorrow.

You're in all. Are all. Marooning
me in me myself. Moroser
moods that never long unloosen -
dark penumbra close and closer.
