CASTLERIGG, EN STEINSIRKEL
I NORD
CASTLERIGG, A STONE
CIRCLE IN THE NORTH
Hanne Bramness tr. Hanne Bramness &
Frances Presley
(from Norwegian)

Fra fjellene kommer
regnet
i konsentriske sirkler
seilende, stenger for
solens øye

Steinene i sol
sirkler
dagen inn, men regn
lammer skyggene

For øyet blindet av
synet, like luftige som regn
er steinene
like usynlige som sin skygge
i regn

Dypt er regnet, dypere
enn elvene
under jorden, som stiger, enn
barnet i mørket

I den åpne vinden drukner
året

Himmelen høy
som et tidløst
tårn
Regnet faller
gjennom
midtsommernetter
med sol
regnværsdager
vintermåner

I regnet drukner
året
årene drukner
men steinene gløder
i skyggen av tidens
sirkel

Det er det samme
regnet
den samme seilas fra
fjellene

From the mountains the rain
comes
in concentric circles
sailing, hiding the eye of
the sun

The stones in the sun
circle in
the day, but rain wipes out
the shadows

For the eye blinded by
sight, stones are as airy
as rain
as invisible as their shadow
in rain

Deep is the rain, deeper
than rivers
under the earth, that rise, than
the child in the womb

In the open wind the year
drowns

The sky tall
as a timeless
tower
Rain falls
through
midsummer nights
with sun
rainy days
winter moons

The year drowns
in the rain
years drown
but the stones glow
in the shadow of time's
circle

It is the same
rain
the same sail from
the mountains
