LEĆĆE Z ČASOM! TIME FLIES BY ...
Jakub Bart-iinski trans. Robert Elsie (from Sorbian)
Čas nowy stup ma spĕšny. Štóž chce w stupje
z nine wostać, šwarnje dyrbi wustupować,
spać mało, dzĕlać dołho, z mocu snować
so. Hdyž maš kmótřić komu, njeskomdź k hłupie!

Štóž mysli haćić čas, sei mysli hlupje.
Dóńž hoji wjedro, dyrbiš domoj chować,
dóńž žehli železo so, dyrbiš kować!
Štóž skomdźi čas, tón prózdny póńdže z kupje.

Čas niese móc a žiwjenje w klinje.
Štóž zbožo časej wudrĕć chce, tón hlada
niech z wočomaj, niech k nohomaj spĕch spinje!

Štóz sobu z časom njemóže, to spada.
Š tóz spina nop a pjasć a leći z časom,
tón sedźeć budźc z njewjestu za kwasom.
Time flies by quickly nowadays. If you want
To keep up with it, you must hasten your step,
Sleep little, work long hours, and push yourself onward.
If you want to be a godfather, don't be late for the baptism!

And if you think you can hold time back, you're a fool,
Make hay while the sun shines
And strike while the iron is hot,
If you are late, there will be nothing left to buy.

Time bears might and vitality in its womb,
If you want to take advantage of it,
Make use of your eyes and your legs.

If you can't keep up with the times, you will fall behind.
But if you can, and put your brains and hands to good use,
You'll have a place of honour at the wedding table.
