IM HERBST IN THE FALL
Heinrich Seideltr. Walter A.Aue

Was rauscht zu meinen Füssen so?
Es ist das falbe Laub vom Baum!
Wie stand er jüngst so blütenfroh
Am Waldessaum!
Was ruft zu meinen Häuptern so?
Der Vogel ist's im Wanderflug,
Der noch vor kurzem sangesfroh
Zu Neste trug.
Mein ahnend Herz, was pochst du so?
Du fühlst den Pulsschlag der Natur,
Und dass verwehen wird also
Auch deine Spur!

What rustles round me noisily?
The fallow foliage from the hedge,
that proudly bloomed just recently
at forest's edge!
What sounds above so fleetingly?
The bird migrating without rest,
that just, while singing mirthfully,
had built its nest!
Why pounds my heart forebodingly?
It feels the pulse in Nature's space
that scatters, unremittingly,
as well my trace!
