Arnolphe lui prend la main sans qu'elle le reconnaisse. AGNÈS Pourquoi me quittez-vous? HORACE Chère Agnès, il le faut. AGNÈS Songez donc, je vous prie, à revenir bientôt. HORACE J'en suis assez pressé par ma flamme amoureuse. AGNÈS Quand je ne vous vois point, je ne suis point joyeuse. HORACE Hors de votre présence, on me voit triste aussi. AGNÈS Hélas! s'il était vrai, vous resteriez ici. HORACE Quoi? vous pourriez douter de mon amour extrême! AGNÈS Non, vous ne m'aimez pas autant que je vous aime. (ARNOLPHE la tire.) Ah! l'on me tire trop. HORACE C'est qu'il est dangereux, Chère Agnès, qu'en ce lieu nous soyons vus tous deux; Et ce parfait ami de qui la main vous presse Suit le zèle prudent qui pour nous l'intéresse. AGNÈS Mais suivre un inconnu que... HORACE N'appréhendez rien: Entre de telles mains vous ne serez que bien. AGNÈS Je me trouverais mieux entre celles d'Horace. HORACE Et j'aurais... AGNÈS (à ARNOLPHE qui la tire encore.) Attendez. HORACE Adieu: le jour me chasse. AGNÈS Quand vous verrai-je donc? HORACE Bientôt, assurément. AGNÈS Que je vais m'ennuyer jusques à ce moment! ............ ............	HORACE You're safe. You needn't worry any more. I've picked a good place. Come on - through this door. We couldn't live together yet, Agnès - We'd ruin everything. Go where he says. AGNES You're leaving me. HORACE This is the only way. AGNES You will be back soon, won't you? HORACE Come what may.
