Tel l'empereur, chimérique
collectionneur d'emblèmes,
il se fabrique un jardin
de mots
pour y déverser l'univers

et désignant du doigt
l'invisible,
veille à l'occulte alternance
de l'eau, de la fange et
du ciel.
 Like the Emperor, fanciful
collector of emblems,
he makes up a word garden
for himself
in which to pour out the universe

and, pointing out
the invisible,
he watches over the secret alternation
of water, mire
and sky.
