After reading English at university, David was a university teacher for a long time,
but the atmosphere of the contemporary university has made it impossible for him to continue.
He now spends his time discussing literature and philosophy with friends and writing: books
of the more usual academic kind (for instance, the New Cambridge Shakespeare edition of
"The Merry Wives of Windsor"); and of an exploratory kind (to do with philosophical and other
questions about reality, most recently "A Book Against Fear"); and poems (most recently three
collections with Julie Crane: "Between Messages", "The Ship called Tyra" & (in 2003) "Sarpedon's Party").
